The island and pond at Shugakuin Imperial Villa, Kyoto. The imperial villas aren't as spectacular as the imperial palace but are worth a visit. Be sure to get your permission documents from the Imperial Household Agency office (located in the Imperial Palace grounds) or you will have made the trip in vain.
