Veteran's Day in the USA

Posted by Steve Rice (Olympia, United States) on 11 November 2008 in Lifestyle & Culture.

Today we celebrate the contributions of military veterans. This image is of the World War II memorial on the capitol grounds in Olympia, Washington, USA. It's dedicated to my parents' generation, sometimes called the greatest generation, which in a real sense saved democracy as we know it.

I also salute those generations before and after this greatest generation for their contributions. That would include my own. Forty years ago today, I was leading an infantry platoon in the Hiep Duc Valley of Vietnam.

A great contribute to all who have been fighting for our freedom! Wow, you've been in Vietnam, I can only imagine how hard that must have been so far from home under those conditions ..

A very appropriate memorial to this special day. I personally appreciate your contribution to the long list of those who have served and protected our democracy. My grandson posted a tribute to my part of the Korean conflict with a picture of me from 1954. Shocking! :-)
