Cape Disappointment Lighthouse (Southern)

It was constructed in 1856 to warn seamen of the Columbia river bar known as "the graveyard of the Pacific." This is the oldest functioning lighthouse on the West Coast. Not as photogenic as the North Head Lighthouse, this is a sturdy looking structure that could use some tender loving care.

I thought it was abounded, but it's still functioning! Could use some paint but for the photo this way it even looks better. Beautiful angle and color toning.

Was it misty when you took this Steve....? the background seems to be a whiteout. Excellent B&W image.

@Observing: Yes, it was extremely foggy/misty when I took this picture. There was no color in the sky at all.

I wonder what the view would be like from up there. Lighthouses are a fascinating subject to me, might be the lack of them around here. Nicely done.

Until I read your write up I thought this was abandoned, but I see its still functional, definitively needs some touching up, I like the person in shot giving a good sens eof scale, wonderful capture

the lack of detail in the sky adds something to this balck and white. did you photoshop it or was that a natural occurance? i can imagine processing the roof and stripe with a vibrant red too.
