Currin Covered Bridge

Posted by Steve Rice (Olympia, United States) on 7 April 2009 in Architecture and Portfolio.

Built in 1925, this 105 foot (32 meter) bridge of the Howe truss type spans the Row River in Lane County, Oregon, USA. It no longer carries vehicular traffic. The white portals and red sides make this the prettiest of the covered bridges I've seen so far.

Part of the Covered Bridges of Oregon series.

Yes, it is a nice looking bridge, and they gave it good solid foundations too. I like how you've included some countryside in the background.

very nice colors. Question from an europeen lambda : why did they cover there bridges ?

7 Apr 2009 1:33pm

@Veronique: The Pacific Northwest gets lots of rain. The bridges were made of wood and were covered to protect the beams from deterioration.
