Belknap Covered Bridge

Posted by Steve Rice (Olympia, United States) on 12 July 2009 in Architecture and Portfolio.

Built in 1966, this 120 foot (36.6 meter) bridge of the Howe truss type spans the McKenzie River in Lane County, Oregon, USA. It has a 40 ton (36.3 metric ton) load limit.

There has been a covered bridge on this site continuously since 1890. This bridge's immediate predecessor was destroyed by a flood. The McKenzie River is a beautiful stream; I enjoyed getting to see the river as well as the bridge.

Part of the Covered Bridges of Oregon series.

Great light - looks like it was a low-light situation?

12 Jul 2009 4:43pm

@PD: It was fairly late in the afternoon, cloudy with rain off and on. Also, the trees were thick and provided a lot of shade. So, it was pretty dark that day.
