The Recycled Coop

Posted by Steve Rice (Olympia, United States) on 29 August 2009 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

The coop was designed to use old cedar fence boards as the building material. There are lots of cedar fences in the Northwest. The bottoms of the boards eventually rot and require replacement. Most of the board is still sound and can be used for coop building. The coop looked well thought out to me.

This coop can be purchased as a kit or you can purchase the plans and use your own materials if you choose.

Clever set-up. Well photographed, especially with the vibrant orange shirt as a balance to the wood of the coop.

All around well-thought out; urban chickens and recycled wood: great use of resources, and again, a super photo-tour of the project. Kudoes.

I like the details of the coop so we can better understand its construction. I like having a person in the shot so we know the scale of it too. Nice one.

Heya Steve! I missed a few posts and I'm going backwards to catch up on your chicken coop series. I still can't over how much I learn from your blog! And to top it up, your photography is a treat to enjoy as well. I agree with you, it does look like a well-thought out coop.

I like this...I'm thinking this would not go over too well in a high rise apartment. Guess I'll scratch that idea.
