Shimanek Covered Bridge

Posted by Steve Rice (Olympia, United States) on 22 September 2009 in Architecture.

Built in 1966, this 130 foot (39.6 meter) bridge of the Howe truss type spans Thomas Creek in Linn County, Oregon, USA. It has a 30 ton (27.2 metric ton) load limit.

This is the fifth covered bridge to be built at this site. The first is believed to have been built in 1861 with the first documented one having been built in 1891. These earlier bridges were destroyed by floods or tree damage in wind storms.

Part of the Covered Bridges of Oregon series.

This is such a stylish bridge with the red treatment. I'm glad to see that rebuilding the bridge occurs when a natural disaster takes one out. A Fine shot.

Great shot . This car looks funny there . As I see there is no road after bridge . Right ?

@MARIANA: Oh yes, the road continues on through the bridge.

Like the shot. The road must be frequently traveled to be rebuilt so many times. It's great they did an authentic restoration!
