Shimanek Covered BridgePosted by Steve Rice (Olympia, United States) on 22 September 2009 in Architecture. Built in 1966, this 130 foot (39.6 meter) bridge of the Howe truss type spans Thomas Creek in Linn County, Oregon, USA. It has a 30 ton (27.2 metric ton) load limit. This is the fifth covered bridge to be built at this site. The first is believed to have been built in 1861 with the first documented one having been built in 1891. These earlier bridges were destroyed by floods or tree damage in wind storms. Part of the Covered Bridges of Oregon series.
