Cutler-Donahoe Covered BridgePosted by Steve Rice (Olympia, United States) on 14 October 2009 in Architecture. Built in 1870, this 79 foot (24.1 meter) bridge of the Town Lattice truss type spans a ditch in the Winterset City Park since being moved there in 1970. For the first century of its existence, it spanned the North River in Madison County, Iowa, USA. Note the pitched roof. Part of the Bridges of Madison County series.

A lovely well documented shot. 14 Oct 2009 9:01am don from United StatesThis old bridge looks beautifully maintained/restored. The pitched roof looks steep enough to shed snow. 14 Oct 2009 3:02pm Ajay from Pune, IndiaLove that angular shape of the bridge. Looks like a lot has grown up below it since time it was built. 14 Oct 2009 4:03pm Steven from Chicagoland, United StatesInteresting angle you captured this from. I first thought the bridge was leaning when I saw the bold white angled lines. :-) Great color and background. 14 Oct 2009 5:24pm lô from verdun, Francece pont m'émeut à chaque fosi que tu nous le livres; sur la route de madison reste mon film préféré des ces dernières années; alors un grand merci à toi! 14 Oct 2009 5:34pm marleen from Doesburg, NetherlandsWow- this is real antique...:-) 14 Oct 2009 6:50pm Viewfinder from Bradenton, FL, United StatesAt first I thought it was leaning; then I noticed it has a projecting front on either side. Cool perspective. 14 Oct 2009 6:54pm Michael Skorulski from Cigel, SlovakiaGlorious and crisp, extremely pleasing image !! 14 Oct 2009 7:18pm dj.tigersprout from New York City, United Statesthis one is so cute!! i love how it covers only a small dip and not an actual river or chasm!! ;) 14 Oct 2009 7:35pm MARIANA from Waterloo, CanadaBeautiful picture; great processing and well deserved old-feel framing :) Maybe tones like you used yesterday would be also perfect for one of your bridge collection . I loved yesterdays shot and those fabulous tones . 14 Oct 2009 8:12pm @MARIANA: Stay tuned. :-) Kiki from Ambert, Puy de Dôme, FranceI find surprising to build a bridge like that just to step over a quite small ditch! 14 Oct 2009 8:43pm @Kiki: For its first 100 years, it crossed a river. It was then moved to this park. @Mahboubeh: I am fond of these old bridges. However, this series was inspired by you romantic ladies from around the world. :-) Paco Díaz from Palma de Mallorca, SpainGreat image, I like very much the light, colors and detail for this beautiful bridge, so well maintained. 15 Oct 2009 4:56am bluechameleon from Vancouver, CanadaThe combination of the red and green is excellent! 17 Oct 2009 2:30am |
