Notice that these rooms are built in recesses in the limestone rock that have been eroded by water over the millennia. Many of the rooms were for storage of food, tools, etc. Others provided living space. I looked for traces of smoke stains on the ceilings to determine which ones had been living quarters. Weather permitting, everyday work was done on patios outdoors. Farming was done up on the canyon rim. Walnut Canyon National Monument
