The lines and ice make this a fine documentary shot but also a fine abstract. The icy conditions are very attractive. Nice one.

Tout semble abandoné et figé dans le temps... c'est très beau et très dramatique aussi !
4 Jan 2010 8:05pm
Great title for it! There is a lot of complex lines beneath all the smooth ice.. a good contrast of textures.

Another freezing image; what is your temp there Steve..?
I thought fish ladder was a joke, I guess it must be to assist upstream swimmers. What fish would that be ?
4 Jan 2010 9:27pm
@Michael: It's warm (9.2 C) and rainy now which is typical for Olympia. The fish ladders are for salmon, steel head and the like.
Very interesting your photo of these ladders which allow the salmons to go back up where they were born to give the life again!
Happy New Year Steve :)

Not much traffic! Excellent composition.
4 Jan 2010 10:22pm
Lots of interesting elements in this one.
4 Jan 2010 10:27pm
Oh, I realize it really is a "fish ladder." Dumb me, yesterday's post showed it and I didn't connect the dots. Thanks for posting another one. When do the salmon start moving upstream?
4 Jan 2010 11:58pm
@Viewfinder: Yesterday's post was a joke. So, don't feel bad. They go up stream in the fall to spawn. September and October would be a good time to see them. However, there's quite a bit of water in this river. I think the best viewing is in shallow creeks way on upstream. It's much easier to see them in such places.
Tone gives an effect of an adventurous and dramatic place.

i don't see any signs directing the fish where to go, steve.
how will they *know* to take the ladder?
if fish are like me, they'll swim around in a circle for a while, then turn around and go back home.
