Alder Lined Trail

Posted by
Steve Rice (Olympia, United States) on 3 February 2010 in Landscape & Rural.

The trail through the Chehalis River Surge Plain is an old railroad roadbed. Beginning in 1910, Milwaukee Road and Union Pacific trains traveled this route. The Milwaukee Road went bankrupt and the Union Pacific moved to more stable tracks on the other side of the Chehails River to escape landslides and washouts.

How interesting...and nothing remains to show there were tracks there except for the gap in the trees. It's like looking down the path of a nearly forgotten past.
