Sculptures For Everyone

Posted by
Steve Rice (Olympia, United States) on 30 August 2010 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio.

On a visit to the Mid-West, I had a few hours in Des Moines, the Capital of Iowa. Downtown, close to the Starbucks, is this fine sculpture park (John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park) I have watched grow the past few years.

My Spotlighted Images

Weird how i see both an artsy playground and a cemetary here. This image intrigues me a lot. Great large view you offer, with so many details to browse through. The snaky path seems to lead directly to the arrow-shaped building, as if inviting to take-off... I like that a lot especially for the woman on her wheelchair, like a dream or a hope*

Very nice that the woman had someone to take her for a look around
the park. Lots of room there for more statues.

Interesting photo. It's a pretty "wide-open" area to look at (for those who are more accustomed to seeing large trees in parks). However, looking more closely I see there may eventually be some large trees along the park perimeter.

Art is definitely the way to go when you want to attract people. I love how it is centrally located among the surrounding buildings. Makes for a nice place to overlook. Your processing in B&W really brings out the free form of the sidewalk
