Alki Point Lighthouse

Posted by
Steve Rice (Olympia, United States) on 20 December 2010 in Architecture.

Completed in 1913, this 37 foot (11.3 meter) lighthouse stands at the southern entrance to Elliott Bay in Seattle, WA, USA. It housed a fourth order Fresnel lens manufactured in Paris. Prior to it's completion, a lens-lantern on top of a post served as the signal to shipping.

Lighthouses are my passion!
Very nice composition with the LH well positioned to the right at the end of the curve created by the rail.
The overcast sky makes a moody image. Good and neat B&W.

A lighthouse overlooks the sea in the radius of perspective, solitude and tranquility combine to provide an atmosphere almost disturbing image. I love this light, silvery gray when sky and sea meet.
