Barker Dam

Posted by
Steve Rice (Olympia, United States) on 26 May 2011 in Architecture.

Built in 1900, the dam created the rain fed reservoir in yesterday's photo. The water was used for cattle. Now, it's a source of water for the park's birds and animals.

My Spotlighted Images

My cancer has returned after almost a year of being symptom free. For the next few weeks, I have many doctor appointments and tests to determine and begin the advanced treatment best for my situation. My commenting will be intermittent at best.

Great texture... I am having trouble getting a handle on the size of this thing. How big is it?

26 May 2011 1:37pm

@PD: It's not that big being in a fairly narrow gap in the rocks. The interesting thing to me is how thin it is, just a few inches, to be holding back a fairly large amount of water. Perhaps that interesting shape adds to its strength.
