George Washington

Posted by
Steve Rice (Olympia, United States) on 12 December 2011 in Art & Design.

This bust, sculpted by Avard Fairbanks, is located on the third floor of the Legislative Building. It's nose has had the patina rubbed off by people rubbing it for good luck.

Washington State Capitol series.

Wonderful detail and angle of view for this bust. I recognize the sculptors name, his sculpture
called rain was always one of the best Art Deco sculptures ever made. His huge bust of Lincoln
was magnificent, unquestionably, one of his finest political sculptures and his western sculptures
rounded out his portfolio so well, that he was one of the finest american sculptors. So many of
them stayed in Rome and never left once there. I remember once seeing a photo of the sculptor
with his bust of Lincoln and that image always stuck in my mind, the beauty of the artists work
and the love showing in the sculptors eyes. Magnificent !~
