This headframe still stands above a shaft at the United Verde Mine site. The hillside immediately around it seems like an open pit operation. But, the miners soon followed the veins of copper deep underground. There's a web of tunnels thousands of feet/meters down.

Ce genre de photos nourrit mon imaginaire et mes rêves sur l'époque de la "conquête de l'ouest". Mes plus forts souvenirs de mon voyage aux USA sont les musées en plein air avec coffres-fort, vieilles locomotives etc - tout un passé proche que je trouve encore bien vivant.

This can very well be a modern "objet d'art" (anything goes nowadays) and the background is amazing!!! Even a painter wouldn't be able to give us such a "mural"!
