Central Vacuum System

Posted by
Steve Rice (Olympia, United States) on 4 March 2014 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio.

And you thought central vacuums were a fairly new idea. I'm afraid not. This one was installed in the basement of the mansion when it was built in 1916. Hose connections are at the foot of the stairway and throughout the house.

A fine shot of this substantial looking central vacuum. The construction and finish of this device is so much better than the equipment we have today.

Steve, these are really history lessons ---- great that you share with us. - You are right, I thought when we got a "smaller" one of the central vacs - we are really getting modern !!!!! Apparently not !!!!

Who knew even the central vacuum system would be kept so brand-spankin' new, too!! This looks like it was unloaded from the truck yesterday. Interesting "peep holes" too as if there was something to look at inside. :-)
