Petroglyphs

Posted by
Steve Rice (Olympia, United States) on 25 January 2015 in Lifestyle & Culture.

A bit further east of Fruita school, you find these petroglyphs. I find the figures with the large round heads rather interesting. As would be expected, lots of animals are depicted, also. Some pioneer graffiti is there, too.

Their conclusion has not been quite easy.

The color of the stone is magnificent and I understand that it inspired these rupestral signatures

@jpla: From the park's Web site: "Petroglyphs found along Highway 24 and on the Capitol Gorge Trail were created by Fremont Culture Indians and are 700 to 1,000 years old. The Fremont were hunter-gatherers who supplemented their diet by growing corn and squash. They lived in pit houses dug into the ground and covered with a brush roof."

A fine image showing us the Petroglyphs. For those who think "aliens" one could be a case for the round heads being a protective helmet. Not me! :-)

great light and contrast to highlight these "aliens" ... ;-)
there is a swiss author who claims these petroglyphs and similar ones from other parts of the world do indeed depict aliens ... his name is erich von däniken (but i don't take him seriously ... ;-)

(sorry for my long "silence", and thanks for your continuing comments ...)

As in many petroglyphs I've seen in photographs, the figures often resemble humanoids with helmets ...alien astronauts ? Great capture ...

Brilliant closeups!! Wonder how old they are Google says that there are petroglyphs as old as 2000B C..
May be these figures are of aliens descended fro the heavens!!
Thank you for sharing this

@Devi: See my responses above.

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

Thank you very much, Steve, for the explanation! To us..because of many books on the subject, they look like "Aliens", but the Fremont Indians might have had a different idea about drawing a human body! Anyway...that they are still there, it is a wonder!

I like this image. As others have noted, von däniken and others claim these are evidence of alien visits. Who knows? Maybe just natives standing in front of the moon or sun. Maybe they are halos. Maybe we could speculate endlessly with no way of knowing. Still, it adds mystery to this photograph.
