Cedar Creek Grist Mill

Posted by
Steve Rice (Olympia, United States) on 14 August 2015 in Business & Industry.

Built in 1876, the mill was restored in 1980-89. The Leffel Turbine, installed in 1886, is still in use today. Capable of producing 16 horsepower, it's being run at 4 to 5 horsepower in this application. The bearing for the spinning turbine is a block of lignum vitae, a very dense hardwood.

Tomorrow, it's back to Japan.
