Hyakunin Bansho

Steve Rice (Olympia, United States) on 6 April 2017 in Architecture.

This large guardhouse guarded the Ote-san-no-mon Gate which led deeper into the castle to the inner and second citadels. One hundred of the most trusted samurai lived here, working in shifts day and night, inspecting those seeking entry.

Wonderful point of view. This is so large. I can just imagine what it must have been like with all of the samurai there.
