This view from the Cliff Shelf Nature Trail shows that the park has two levels: the lower and upper prairies. The lodge and visitor center are at the foot of Cedar Pass. Further west, Norbeck Pass takes you back up to the upper prairie.
This small Cliff Shelf area, like an oasis in a a hostile land, has been used by humans for 11,000 years. More than 50 plant species and 100 bird species have been identified in this tiny place.
