The Rotunda

Posted by Steve Rice (Olympia, United States) on 1 May 2018 in Documentary & Street.

In the middle of the ground floor is this sculpture, "Columbus' Last Appeal to Queen Isabella", which was a gift from Darius Ogden Mills in 1883. It's a beautiful piece but something I wouldn't necessarily expect. But, the California State Capitol seems to be part museum and part a working capitol building. An interesting combination it seems.

A fine image of this sculpture. It is here for some reason, maybe for some historical fact that we don't know.

Such a beautiful interior to house this great sculpture! I agree with your sentiment as there is no real tie between California and Columbus.

It is interesting to have this sculpture in the California State Capitol Rotunda. But it is very beautiful in a gorgeous setting.
