Bandits at Six O'clock!

Posted by
Steve Rice (Olympia, United States) on 11 June 2018 in Animal & Insect.

Portia had been hesitant to go to the back corner of our yard without one of us with her. She likes going there to check out the neighbor's yard. We were out one evening with her and saw the source of her concern. These characters were up a tree just over the fence. She had been smelling and hearing them I guess.

Actually, there were three of them. People down the street feed these guys which is a terrible idea. But, they don't try to raid my bird feeders like they used to do.

the best time for a meeting between bandits (laughs)

A fun-looking rogue, which certainly will also create problems. Portia is wise when careful.

Excellents ces Ratons laveurs.
Certes les nourrir n'est pas la meilleure idée.
Bonne journée Steve

Portia has to ask himself questions when she sees this very beautiful animal perched on a tree over her. I adore these "bandits"

A fine capture of these pests even if they are in a very dark area. Feeding them is to invite more problem.

They are so cute, but can really do a lot of damage to patio furniture or your attic if they get in. Portia is wise to be cautious.

Steven from Chicagoland, United States

Cute capture of this critter staring down!! Portia has a great sixth sense to know when to go with caution. I notice that with birds and squirrels when a hawk is in the vicinity......absolute silence.

11 Jun 2018 6:23pm

@Steven: I've noticed the same thing when a hawk visits out backyard, which seems to happen a few times a year. The little birds disappear along with the squirrels. Once the hawk is gone, things are back to normal.

Great portrait of urban wildlife we would rather avoid
