Under the Fourth Avenue Bridge

Posted by
Steve Rice (Olympia, United States) on 17 April 2019 in Cityscape & Urban.

A crowded homeless encampment under the bridge. The bridge is near the plum trees I was photographing. The City of Olympia was trying to prevent people from camping here. It has apparently given up.

The two geese seem to be holding their own.

I am appalled to see that in our time there are still people living under bridges, whether in France or elsewhere. It's so sad these differences between humans where some have everything and others nothing

Yes, more and more common in large cities, and more and more numerous. The worst thing is that there are many who have a job that does not allow them to access housing !

Beautiful tones captured in this well-layered composition! How unfortunate that they are forgotten. I guess "out of sight, out of mind"?

I live in a part of Paris that knows this so well. Sad and so far from human values. I can't understand our era. Shame on us... and thank U

That is such a sad sight but it is something that we see everywhere these days. A great black and white image. I like having this view of below and above the bridge. It is like two different worlds.

This is a good documentary photo and the black and white suits the scene very well. I agree with Elaine's comments. The bridge acts as a barrier separating the world above from the one below. A strong statement that.
